Trench Tales is a scary shooting game set in World War 1. A new playtest is starting soon on Steam, and new players can join now.
With haunting, war-torn levels, environmental destruction, a significant weapon mod system, and extra sensory abilities, it is hard to believe that Trench Tales was created by just one developer. This third-person horror shooter game is reminiscent of Resident Evil, but its World War I setting and focus on gunplay make it appealing to fans of Battlefield 1 or Sniper Elite, and now its creator is recruiting playtesters to help improve the experience.
Set in an alternate history at the end of World War 1 Trench Tales sees you, as a lone soldier, exploring and surviving in the devastated and desolate region of Verdun, desperately searching for a way north and out. Unlike most war games, which rely solely on realism, there are mystical energies and forces at work here. The soldiers you'll face aren't just enemies because they're on opposite sides in the conflict, but also because they've been reborn. A dark force is watching dead soldiers return, as well as some influential and powerful warlords.
In addition to wielding World War I weapons, which are highly customizable thanks to Trench Tales' gunnery system, you can use some of your dark magic to activate abilities that will help you survive. Whether it's healing faster, scanning enemies and following them through walls, or slowing down time, you can use this mystical energy to your advantage.
While it's not on the same scale as the Battlefield series, it still has some environmental destruction you can make use of. You can use explosives to knock a hole in a wall, creating a new line of sight, or perhaps create a path away from the center of enemy activity - just make sure they can't hear the blast.
Developer Talking Drums, a solo band, has already hosted one playtest for Trench Tales, but now it is preparing for another one. If you participated in the first test you will automatically get access to this new test, but it's taking things a step further and letting new players request access on its Steam page. Talking Drums says the new Trench Tales playtest will start on Friday, April 18, and end sometime next week.
