The trailer showed that Atsu will seek revenge against The Yotei Six. We also saw some gameplay including the open world new features and combat. Atsu will use various weapons like a katana spear dual swords kusigara guns and even animals to fight her enemies. The developers have also put a lot of effort into creating the new Hokkaido setting.

Hokkaido Will Offer More Detail and Openness Than Tsushima

In an interview with Variety co-creators Jason Connell and Nate Fox talked about the new setting in Ghost of Yotei how players will explore it and why they chose it. Tsushima Island became popular with fans even leading to a tourism boom after the games release. Connell and Fox hope Hokkaido will have the same impact.

Fox said This is the most open game we have made. One of the best parts is getting lost and letting your curiosity guide you through the world. We want players to feel like they are really there in Hokkaido or Ezo as it was called in the past. Ezo is like a character itself full of hidden secrets and stories.

The team wants to show a different side of Japan. Since the story takes place 329 years after Ghost of Tsushima many things will have changed including politics or technology and even the plants and animals.

It is just so natural and full of nature Connell said. We can tell a more wild and rural version of the story compared to a big city. There are so many different environments and beautiful places to inspire us. We can not use them all but we can choose the most stunning ones to bring to life for the players.
