Given the sheer amount of content in Baldur's Gate 3 we can only imagine all the instances that did not make it into the game. We are still seeing never before-seen content in the game almost two years later but the developers had so much in mind from the start that the cut content could have made for a great what if series.
We've already heard about the developers original plan to have Isabelle killed by Halcyon. And while that was a revelation for fans, this next step is even closer to that. Some recently data-mined animations that never made it into the game show Astarion brutally murdering Shadowheart. Two of the community's darlings going up against each other could have definitely caused a major rift.
Astarion Almost Killed Shadowheart in Baldur’s Gate 3, Scrapped Plans Reveal
In datamined footage shared by Attention-Sun-7794 on Reddit, we see Astarion sneak up to a sleeping Shadowheart in camp. Upon attempting to bite him Shadowheart wakes up with a jolt after which Astarion throws him down and strangles him to death. It is a truly brutal scene, especially since it involves our favorite goons and priests.
One comment said. If this actually happened in the game I think 75% of players would have killed Astarion instantly. And judging by the number of upvotes I think they are right. As for who this animation might have been made for some players speculate that it was actually made for the Astarion origin race.
It seems like this could be part of Origin Astarion's bite night? One comment speculated that If you fail a stealth check in the full version of the game, your victim will wake up and angrily confront you about it. Maybe they planned to let players kill the victim to keep them quiet.
It looks like there were a few early plans to kill off Shadowheart, according to the original poster. Dark Urge kills Shadowheart during the swimming scene in Act 3 but people are already getting so angry at me for posting this Asterion scene, so I probably won't post it. I think killing a naked Shadowheart would be even worse.
