When I heard that a small group of fans from Call of Duty, Halo, Destiny, and Apex Legends were working together to create a new game. my thoughts immediately went to the project, a fast-paced, potential-packed shooter set on a planet in the far future. I was not expecting Covenant which is essentially a Dark Souls-like FPS game, to be anything like it. Sure that's a little rude. but it is an elevator pitch. Thanks to its appearance at the Galaxies Showcase, we have got a new look at Covenant and it looks really good.

DOOM The Dark Ages will be delivering a dark fantasy to FPS game fans very soon and if the thoughts expressed in my preview still hold true at launch, it should be an excellent work. Popular boomer shooter Painkiller is also being revived and will offer a similar experience later in the year. Covenant is the third horse in the race, offering some hard-hitting brutal combat in a gothic, atmospheric environment.

Legion Studios known for their FPS experience, brings powerful weapons like machine guns bows and crossbows in Covenant. But there are also melee options, even in first person to keep the Souls-like vibe, as seen in the new trailer. We see a proper duel with long swords. This one looks like a giant deer's horn, which has been transformed into a mace and bow combination which will hurl enemies skyward and then allow you to shoot arrows at them in the air. You can bring out your inner Thor and throw a hammer that will hit enemies, creating a shockwave and a satisfying clank. Doom fans will also be happy to see that there is some sort of chainsaw weapon here.

Elsewhere, we see the use of environmental objects, such as the moment when a pot is lifted into the air and karate-dodged towards an enemy. A fast kick move is also shown, which can knock enemies to the floor. The moves and dodges also feel quite fast and dynamic, inspired by Souls.

All of this implies that combat in Covenant is likely to be very intense. This new look at the game impressed me just as much as its trailer did in terms of the game's aesthetic. Weapons enemy types, bosses and environments all look suitably scary and impressive, similar to the Souls series or Lords of the Fallen.

Sadly, the one thing I really wanted to see was a demo or even news of a release date but for now, Covenant is still at the watch this awesome trailer and add me to your wishlist' stage. I have DOOM The Dark Age and Painkiller coming out soon so I am okay with that for now.
